A dental implant is a small titanium post surgically placed into your jawbone and acts as a “root” to support a replacement tooth or bridge. Once in place, the implant fuses with your natural bone to create a strong anchor for artificial teeth. Implants can also be used to anchor dentures and other removable restorations. At Hybrid Dental, an implant is often the best treatment option to replace one or more missing teeth because they look and feel like natural teeth. And because implants are designed to fuse with living bone tissue, they provide ongoing stimulation to the surrounding bone. This helps to keep your jaw healthy and preserves facial contours.

 The Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Dental implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth. They are customized to match the color, shape, and size of your existing teeth, providing a seamless and natural-looking smile.
  • Dental implants restore the full functionality of your mouth. They are securely anchored in the jawbone, allowing you to bite, chew, and speak confidently. Unlike removable dentures, dental implants are stable and do not slip or move while eating or speaking.
  • When a tooth is lost, the underlying jawbone can deteriorate over time. Dental implants integrate with the jawbone through osseointegration, stimulating bone growth and preventing bone loss. This helps maintain the structure and strength of the jawbone.

The Dental Implants Procedure

Your dentist will conduct a comprehensive oral examination, including X-rays or 3D imaging, to evaluate your oral health and determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. They will discuss the treatment plan, address concerns, and answer your questions. In a surgical procedure, the dental implant, a titanium post, is placed into the jawbone. Local anesthesia or sedation is administered to ensure your comfort during the process. The implant is inserted into the bone, and the gum tissue is sutured over it. Over time, the implant fuses with the jawbone through osseointegration, providing a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

After implant placement, a healing period of several months is typically required. During this time, the jawbone integrates with the implant, securing it in place. Temporary prosthetic options may be provided to maintain the appearance and function of your smile during the healing period. Once the implant fully integrates with the jawbone, a minor surgical procedure is performed to place an abutment. The abutment acts as a connector between the implant and the final restoration. After the gums have healed around the abutment, impressions of your teeth are taken to create a custom-made dental crown, bridge, or denture. This restoration is designed to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, providing a natural-looking result. The restoration is then securely attached to the implant or abutment, completing the dental implant procedure.
