Root Canals in Las Vegas, NV

A root canal is a dental procedure used to repair and save a tooth that is badly infected or decayed. When decay is left untreated, it can infect the tooth's pulp and cause severe pain or even lead to an abscess and more severe problems. During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove the diseased tissue and clean the area thoroughly before filling and sealing the tooth to prevent further infection. You may also need a crown after the treatment as an added layer of protection for the treated tooth. This will protect from future infections and allow the patient to return to normal function quickly. No matter how severe the infection or decay, our dentists are here at Hybrid Dental, to help relieve your pain and restore your oral health!

The Need for a Root Canal

A deep cavity, cracked or chipped tooth, or other trauma can expose the tooth's inner pulp to bacteria. Left untreated, this can cause infection and damage to the nerves deep inside the tooth, resulting in severe pain. This pain is typically managed with over-the-counter pain medications. However, if the pain persists, we recommend seeking an oral evaluation to determine the cause of the pain and the appropriate treatment.

When the nerve tissue inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, it can lead to a “root canal.” The pulp is the soft tissue inside the crown that extends into the root and contains nerves, connective tissue, blood vessels, and lymph vessels. When it becomes infected, it must be removed. Then, the canals inside the roots are cleaned and shaped before filling. In some cases, a crown is placed on top to protect the tooth from future damage or breakage.

Treatment may include oral antibiotics and pain relievers or referral to an endodontist for a consultation. Endodontists specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries inside the teeth.

The Benefits of Root Canals

  • Saving the natural tooth is the most common benefit of getting a root canal. Without a root canal, an infection can cause the tooth to die, requiring a tooth extraction in the future.
  • Avoiding tooth extraction is also an advantage of root canals. This procedure is less invasive than removing a tooth through oral surgery. Keeping your natural teeth helps to maintain proper spacing in your mouth for chewing food and speaking.
  • Having a root canal can improve oral health and prevent further problems. It also relieves any pain you are experiencing due to an infected or inflamed tooth.
