Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Las Vegas, NV

Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Las Vegas, NV

While you may have your wisdom teeth extracted for various reasons, they usually need to be taken care of before they cause you any pain or discomfort. That’s because wisdom teeth don’t generally erupt into the mouth in an ideal position. Instead, they commonly come in sideways or only partially emerge through the gums.

In these cases, they can become impacted and require extraction by a dentist. Impacted teeth can cause several problems, including infection, adjacent teeth, bone damage, cysts, etc. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact Hybrid Dental, our dentist, to see if you will need to have your wisdom teeth removed.

Signs That You Need Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Your third molars, or wisdom teeth, are the last teeth to develop in a human’s mouth and are typically the most crooked and least valuable teeth in the mouth, which is why they are so often extracted. However, some signs indicate you need them removed to prevent serious oral health issues from developing. A few symptoms include:

  • Difficulty chewing and cleaning your teeth properly due to alignment problems
  • An increase in tooth pain since these teeth are so far back in the mouth
  • Swelling around the back of your jaw
  • Formation of cysts around the third molar site

Reasons for Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that develop on each side of the upper and lower jaws. They are the last permanent teeth to emerge, typically erupting between the ages of 17 and 24. Impacted wisdom teeth are at risk of damaging, decaying, or even causing gum disease or pain. When the teeth begin to show, they can push existing teeth out of alignment. This is why they must be removed before the roots are completely formed.

Our dentist will let you know if you need to have your wisdom teeth removed or not. If you need surgery, you can plan for the procedure to take about one hour after the local anesthesia has taken effect.

The gum tissue is opened during the wisdom teeth removal to expose the bone structure. The bone must be cut to remove the teeth, and the tissue must be lifted away from the tooth. Sometimes, the tooth can be broken into multiple pieces for easier removal. Once the procedure is over, the patient can expect some swelling and discomfort at the extraction site, as well as stiffness of the jaw muscles. You can help manage any pain or discomfort by taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication and applying an ice pack to the face for 15 minutes every hour for the first 48 hours following the procedure.

Our dentist will likely recommend wisdom tooth removal as a preventative measure to avoid complications in the future. For the best dental care tailored to your particular needs, visit Hybrid Dental at 7730 W Cheyenne Ave Ste 108, Las Vegas 89129, or call (702) 658-8008.
